A Life of Service, Love and Simple Joys

Pennsylvania, USA, Reading,Tue Jun 09 2026
Bruce Lee Nattress left this world on June 3, 2026, at the age of eighty. He was a longtime resident of Ruscomanor Township and had spent most of his life in the company of family, friends and a strong sense of duty. He married Carol A. (Mayer) Nattress in 1961, and together they celebrated more than five decades of partnership. Their marriage was a cornerstone of Bruce’s life, and after his passing she will miss their shared moments in card games and quiet evenings. Bruce’s early years began in West Reading, where he was born to Charles and Emily Nattress. He completed high school at Fleetwood in 1963, then enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard. His service included a year during the Vietnam War and culminated in retirement as a Chief Petty Officer, Third Class, in 1984 after twenty‑two years of commitment.
After hanging up his uniform, Bruce pursued hobbies that brought him peace and excitement. He hunted small game and deer on annual trips with friends, fished in both fresh and saltwater settings, and traveled to Quebec for angling adventures. In later years, he found comfort in playing 500 rummy with Carol, a pastime that kept their bond strong. Bruce’s legacy lives on through his son Mark R. , who is married to Jennifer (Bovan) Nattress, and their children Taylor, now with Owen Kelly, and Braden. He is also survived by his sister Lucille (Yenser). The family remembers him as someone who cherished life’s simple pleasures and devoted himself to those he loved. A graveside ceremony will take place on Thursday at 11:00 a. m. in Becker’s St. Peter’s Cemetery, with military honors rendered by the Coast Guard and Topton American Legion Post.
