Heat Wave Hits Eugene: Expect 90‑Degree Days This Weekend
Eugene, OR, USATue Jun 09 2026
The Eugene and Springfield area is set for a sharp rise in temperatures, moving from the mild 60s at the start of the week to scorching highs by mid‑week. The National Weather Service notes that after a cool, wet beginning, a multi‑day heat event will begin late in the week and extend into the weekend. By Monday, June 8, highs were only about 61 degrees. By Thursday, June 11, the city could see a pleasant 78. The real heat begins on Friday, June 13, with temperatures climbing to 90 degrees and reaching a blistering 98 on Saturday, June 14. Heat is expected to stay above 90 into Sunday.
Across Oregon, Medford will experience the hottest forecast, with peaks of 100 degrees on June 13 and 105 on June 14. In Eugene, the heat risk escalates from none on the first two days to low from June 10 through 12, and moderate on June 13 and 14. Low risk means people who are very sensitive to heat should take precautions, while moderate risk indicates a higher danger for those prone to heat issues.
Most of Lane County will mirror Eugene’s temperatures, except along the coast. Florence is projected to see slightly lower highs—78 on June 13 and 85 on June 14. The NWS also predicts that the rain expected on June 8 and 9 may be the last for a while.
Those who are heat‑sensitive or have outdoor plants should prepare for extreme conditions. If you plan to swim in rivers or lakes, remember that water can still be cold and currents swift even when the air is hot.
