Heatwave Brings Possible Power Cuts in Northern California
Bay Area, USATue Jun 09 2026
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG E) warns that people in several Northern California counties may lose power mid‑week as temperatures rise and wildfire risk grows. The alert covers Colusa, Glen, Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Sutter, Tehama and Yolo counties. It is valid until Friday and will list exact addresses two days before any shutdown.
The company says the notice only gives a rough idea of where cuts might happen. Conditions can change fast, so the real impact is uncertain.
Weather experts predict a steady climb in heat this week. Temperatures will hit the low 90s on Wednesday and may reach about 100 degrees Thursday. Santa Rosa could see 98 degrees, Napa around 97, and towns like Healdsburg and Cloverdale could hit the high‑90s early Monday.
Dry air and strong offshore winds—gusts up to 20 mph—create the perfect mix for fires. The risk is highest in the North Bay mountains, but hot and dry weather will spread across the Bay Area and Central Coast.
Recent fires illustrate the danger. A small blaze near Vacaville burned 10. 5 acres last Sunday, and Monday’s Putah Fire in Yolo County consumed about 300 acres. These incidents show how quickly conditions can spark a wildfire.
Residents are urged to act now. Dispose of cigarettes and matches safely, avoid equipment that can spark fires, make sure campfires are fully extinguished, and follow burn bans or only burn with a permit.
PG E will update the public as the situation evolves. Stay alert and prepare for possible outages while keeping safety in mind.
