Old school building catches fire in Vallejo
Vallejo, California, USASun May 24 2026
Around 1:30 in the morning, a fire broke out at a long-empty Vallejo school building. About 40 firefighters rushed to the scene near Fifth Street. By 7:30 a. m. , the fire had grown so much that officials called for extra help, making it a three-alarm response. Luckily, no one got hurt, and crews had the flames under control by 9 a. m.
The cause of the fire remains a mystery for now. The city brought in big machines to clear debris and check for hidden hot spots in the damaged structure. Other nearby firefighters from Benicia, Crockett-Carquinez, and American Canyon also came to help. Their teamwork made sure the fire didn’t spread further.
Empty school buildings often become fire hazards because no one is around to notice problems early. Old wiring, dry wood, and lack of maintenance can turn minor issues into big blazes. This fire shows how quickly a forgotten place can become dangerous.
Vallejo’s Public Works team worked fast to secure the area. They used heavy tools to remove unstable parts of the building and prevent any hidden flames from restarting. Their quick action helped avoid more damage or injuries.
