Rain forces last-minute changes to Tennessee high school softball finals

The final games of Tennessee’s high school softball season got a rain check. Originally planned for the same day, the biggest matches got shifted because of steady rainfall across Middle Tennessee. Instead of wrapping up on Friday, the championship showdowns got pushed to Saturday. At Riverdale High School, where the 3A and 4A finals were scheduled, the schedule was turned upside down. The McNairy Central vs. Alcoa matchup in 3A got delayed until after lunchtime, starting at 12:30 instead of 10:00. Over in 4A, Maryville and Stewarts Creek also saw their game pushed later, now set for 3:00 instead of midday.
Not all fields suffered the same fate. Some games stayed on schedule at Shelbyville Central High School. The 1A and 2A finals kept their original times, playing at 3:00 and 12:30, though they had to adjust because of the weekend change. Some games didn’t just get delayed—they got moved completely. A late rainout in Division II-AA forced a championship game between Chattanooga Christian and Baylor to resume today in a different city after being halted at a tie. Rain isn’t the only sport affected. Baseball finals, track events, and soccer tournaments all faced delays, showing how unpredictable spring weather can be for outdoor events.
