2025: Americans' Top Resolutions
USA, San DiegoSat Dec 28 2024
As we step into 2025, many Americans are eager to make some changes. A recent survey found that health, exercise, and diet are at the top of most people's lists. This isn't surprising, given that obesity has been a big issue in the U. S. for a long time. But last year, something interesting happened—the obesity rate dropped for the first time in over a decade. This is good news, but there's still a long way to go.
The survey also showed that people are thinking about their finances and relationships too. Almost half of Americans plan to make at least one resolution this year. Younger folks, like millennials and Generation Z, are especially excited about setting goals. Women are also more likely to say they'll set a resolution.
A mental health counselor, Carla Woods, shared that her biggest resolution is to stay social. This is important not just for her physical health, but her mental health too. Doctor Andres J. Acosta from the Mayo Clinic pointed out that with new weight-loss drugs coming out, people might feel overwhelmed. He thinks it's like an experiment to figure out what works best.
Some politicians are also talking about this. They say that obesity is a complex disease caused by many things. They think we should have more access to treatments like behavior therapy and new medications. But the truth is, without big changes, the number of obese people in the U. S. might reach 260 million by 2050.
