49ers Receiver Room Faces Injury Puzzle Ahead of Raiders Game
The San Francisco 49ers have a receiver problem. Several key players are hurt. Mike Evans helped the team win its first six games. Now his Achilles is sore. He had to leave the Washington game before halftime. He also missed the Atlanta game and the bye week.
John Lynch said Evans probably will not play against the Raiders. Deebo Samuel is out too. His hamstring has kept him away for three games. Christian Kirk hurt his knee in practice. The team needs healthy receivers to keep the offense moving.
The 49ers are being careful with Evans. They remember Christian McCaffrey. He dealt with Achilles tendinitis in 2024. He rested for two months before returning. The team does not want Evans to rush back and hurt himself again. Lynch said every player heals differently. The goal is to bring Evans back only when he is ready to stay.
Before the injury, Evans was a big part of the passing game. He caught 27 passes for 420 yards and three scores. Almost every catch went for a first down or a touchdown. He and quarterback Brock Purdy connected quickly. Evans was strong on third downs and near the goal line.
Other receivers are in different spots. Demarcus Robinson may return from injured reserve. Brandon Aiyuk wants to come back after two years away. Jauan Jennings almost got traded to Minnesota but stayed. The Raiders game does not affect playoff seeding much. After that, the 49ers face five straight NFC games, including the Cowboys, Vikings in Mexico City, Seahawks, Giants, and Rams.
