A Brutal Attack in Queens: Police Investigate Possible Hate Crime
Queens, New York, USAFri Jun 27 2025
In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old woman was viciously assaulted by three men in Queens, with police considering it a possible hate crime. The attack occurred near Redfern Ave. and Village Lane in Far Rockaway around 8:30 p. m. on a Wednesday. The victim and her attackers knew each other, and an argument escalated into violence. One of the men strangled the woman until she passed out, while the others punched her and hurled anti-LGBTQ slurs.
The woman, who lives in Arverne, was rushed to St. John's Hospital for treatment. She suffered pain in her ribs and neck but was expected to recover. The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident, but it's still unclear if the victim is transgender. This attack is particularly disturbing as it happened near the end of Pride Month, a time meant for celebration and acceptance.
Earlier in the month, another hate crime occurred when a 99-cent-store worker slashed a customer with a box-cutter. The worker allegedly called the customer derogatory names after being asked for help. This incident was also investigated as a hate crime.
Such attacks highlight the ongoing struggle for acceptance and safety within the LGBTQ community. It's crucial for society to stand against hate and violence, promoting inclusivity and respect for all individuals. The police are working to bring the attackers to justice, but the community must also play a role in fostering a safer environment.
