A Brutal Murder Unfolds in Clarksville
Sun Feb 09 2025
On a quiet street in Clarksville, a shocking discovery was made in late May 2024. Katia Duenas-Aguilar, a 23-year old Private First Class who was stationed at Fort Campbell, was found lifeless in a home on Tiny Town Road. She had been brutally attacked. The brutal nature of the crime left investigators stunned. She had been stabbed over 68 times in total, with the autopsy report revealing 55 stab wounds and over 13 incised wounds.
Katia was found by someone on May 18, 2024, and the police launched a full-blown homicide investigation immediately. The investigation quickly led to two arrests. Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, who was Katia's husband, and Sofia Rodas, who was 35 years old, were the ones arrested. Both were charged with tampering with evidence, and Sofia was also charged with first-degree murder.
The case took a curious turn when it was revealed that both suspects were already in federal custody for unrelated charges. They were serving their time away from the ongoing investigation. They were extradited on February 7, 2025, and both suspects were served their indictments in the Montgomery County Jail. The case is still ongoing and will await prosecution.
Why would anyone need to commit such a horrific crime? What was the motive? On top of that, there were two people involved.
The ongoing nature of the investigation means that the public can still play a crucial role.
