In Iran, two former Afghan military leaders were recently shot dead. This has sparked outrage and fear among Afghan refugees. Many believe the Taliban is behind these killings.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front, a group opposing the Taliban, has accused the Taliban of targeting former Afghan soldiers. They say the Taliban sees these ex-soldiers as a threat. The group wants Iran to protect Afghan refugees, especially former military personnel.
Naseer Ahmad Faiq, who represents Afghanistan at the United Nations, called the killings an organized crime. He urged Iran to investigate and bring those responsible to justice. He warned that silence on this issue is like being part of the crime.
The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan also spoke out. They said this is not the first time Afghan military figures have been targeted in Iran. They want a serious, independent investigation.
The Jamiat-e Islami party described the killings as deeply concerning. They urged Iran to identify and punish those behind the attacks.
The victims, General Ekramuddin Saree and Mohammad Amin Almas, were shot in Tehran's Valiasr Square. The motive is still unclear. Iranian officials have not commented yet.
This is not the first time something like this has happened. Months ago, another former Afghan commander was killed in Mashhad. After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, many former military and government officials fled to Iran.
Some refugees in Iran have been deported back to Afghanistan. Reports say those sent back have been arrested, tortured, or even killed by the Taliban.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front has asked the United Nations to help relocate former Afghan military personnel to safe countries. They want Iran to stop deporting these ex-soldiers.
