Channing Tatum's movie "Roofman" is now a hit on Paramount+. It's the most-watched film on the platform, which is surprising because it was almost ignored when it first came out.
The film is based on a true story about Jeffrey Manchester, a former soldier who turned to crime to support his family. He robbed McDonald's by breaking through the roofs, but he was caught. After escaping from prison, he lived secretly in a toy store for over six months.
"Roofman" had a good start. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 and was released in theaters a month later. Despite positive reviews and an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it only made about $34 million at the box office.
The movie features a talented cast, including Kirsten Dunst, LaKeith Stanfield, Peter Dinklage, Juno Temple, and Ben Mendelsohn. It was released on Paramount+ on December 9, 2025, just two months after its theatrical debut.
The film's marketing might have confused people. The promos and posters made it seem like a light-hearted comedy, but the movie is actually a dark, emotional story about a man desperate to provide for his family. This mismatch might have contributed to its initial lack of success.
However, "Roofman" found its audience on Paramount+. It has been the number one movie on the platform since mid-December 2025 and has held the top spot for much of the first week of 2026.
