A Devastating Night in Gaza
Gaza Strip, Khan YounisThu May 15 2025
The southern city of Khan Younis in Gaza faced a brutal night. More than 50 people lost their lives in heavy airstrikes. This was the second night of intense bombing. The strikes happened while the U. S. President was visiting the Middle East. Many hoped his visit would bring a ceasefire or more aid to Gaza. The situation is dire. Israel has been blocking aid for three months. The blockade is causing severe hardship.
The strikes hit hard. A cameraman in Khan Younis counted 10 airstrikes. Many bodies were taken to Nasser Hospital. It was difficult to identify some due to the extent of their injuries. The hospital confirmed 54 deaths. Among the victims was a journalist and 11 members of his family. The Israeli military did not comment on the strikes immediately.
The bombing has been relentless. The night before, airstrikes in northern and southern Gaza killed at least 70 people. Many of them were children. Another strike in northern Gaza hit a mosque and a clinic. It killed 13 people. The Civil Defense, a first responder agency, reported the incident.
The impact on families is heartbreaking. In Nasser Hospital, a mother, Safaa Al-Najjar, lost two of her children. Her other five children were injured, and her husband was in intensive care. She described the sudden horror of the airstrikes. The community is in mourning. Outside the hospital, people gathered to pray as the dead were prepared for burial.
Israel's Prime Minister has vowed to escalate the war. He aims to destroy the Hamas militant group. Human Rights Watch has criticized Israel's plan. They warn that it could lead to further devastation. The war began when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel. Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed over 53, 000 Palestinians. Many of them were women and children. The conflict shows no signs of ending soon.
The European Hospital in Khan Younis, the only facility providing cancer treatments, is out of service. Israeli strikes damaged its infrastructure and access roads. This shutdown halts critical treatments. The hospital director is working to coordinate repairs. The situation in Gaza is dire. Nearly half a million Palestinians face starvation. The international community is watching closely.
