A Fresh Face Takes Over Bay County’s History Hub

Bay City, MI, USASat Jun 06 2026
The Bay County Historical Museum has a new leader stepping into the role this summer. Kyle Proctor starts as executive director on June 1, bringing over two decades of experience in running organizations and shaping their direction. His background includes high-level jobs in corporate communications and leadership, most recently handling communications for a major healthcare company and earlier roles at a large chemical corporation. The museum’s board picked him after a thorough search, highlighting his ability to guide groups through change.
Proctor’s arrival comes as the museum looks to do more than just preserve artifacts. Plans include stronger ties to the community and expanding how history is shared with visitors. The museum has been a local fixture since 1919, offering free entry to Bay County residents and members. Others pay a small fee—$2 per person or $5 per family. Located downtown, it’s open Tuesday to Saturday, making it an easy stop for a quick visit or a longer look back in time. Beyond regular exhibits, the museum offers special experiences. Every third Wednesday at 11 a. m. , guided tours take visitors through every floor, even up to the clock tower for a view of Bay City. These tours cost $5 per person. The space also hosts the Bay Heritage Quilters Guild every Tuesday morning, a group that’s been meeting since 1988 and always welcomes new faces.
