A High-Stakes UFC Clash and a Debate on the Winner
California, USASun Feb 02 2025
Merab Dvalishvili came out on top in the UFC 311 event, but a lot of people are still talking about it. They are questioning whether the right fighter was declared the winner. Umar Nurmagomedov, Dvalishvili’s opponent, was favored by many fans and experts in the early rounds.
The first two rounds were all about Nurmagomedov’s striking skills. He was clearly in control. He even managed to break his hand in the first round but kept going. This made his performance even more impressive. The final two rounds, however, were a different story. Dvalishvili showed his strength and took control of the fight. This left the outcome of the third round as a big factor in the decision.
Joe Rogan and others had a lot to say about the third round. They thought it could have gone to Nurmagomedov. They pointed out that Nurmagomedov landed more strikes and had more control on the ground. Nurmagomedov landed twenty-two significant strikes, one more than Dvalishvili’s twenty-one. He also had significantly more control time on the ground in the third- forty-three seconds, compared to Dvalishvili’s seven seconds. They argued that Nurmagomedov should have won that round, and thus the fight.
However, the judges and media members saw it differently. Despite the numbers, the eye test told them that Dvalishvili was the better fighter in the third round. This was because Dvalishvili looked fresh and strong, while Nurmagomedov showed signs of fatigue. The momentum was clearly on Dvalishvili’s side. Everyone who scored the fight on mmadecisions. com gave it to Dvalishvili 48-47. It is a debate that continues to this day. Who really won that fight? Was it based on the stats or who looked better? Think about it.
