President Joe Biden welcomed athletes who represented the United States in the 2024 Paris Olympics to the White House, celebrating their achievement and expressing gratitude for their dedication. He praised them for setting an exceptional example for young people across the country, saying, "They see you and they begin to believe in themselves. "
The President emphasized that the US is the "greatest sports nation in the world," and he's proud of the Olympians for showcasing the nation's spirit. He also acknowledged the athletes who served in the country's armed forces, expressing support for all Team USA athletes. "We need to do more to support all of our team USA athletes," he stressed.
During the event, Biden couldn't help but share a personal anecdote. He revealed that his staff watched the Olympics while he was receiving national security briefings, and even he had the TV on in the Oval Office. His joking about his staff's Olympian-watching habits showed his lighter side and the relaxed atmosphere at the event.
The President also mentioned that he wasn't permitted to attend the Paris games due to concerns about his presence disrupting the event. However, he looks forward to attending the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles, where he's confident he'll be able to join in the fun. "I won't be president, they can't stop me from going there then," he quipped.
