Thanedar's resolution came as Trump was on a trip to the Middle East, his first major trip abroad during his second term. Thanedar has expressed concerns about potential conflicts of interest, as Trump seems to be mixing his personal business dealings with his presidential duties. Thanedar has said he came to the United States with few resources and has a deep love for the country. He wants to defend its Constitution and institutions. When he took over the Detroit congressional district, it marked the first time in decades that the city was left without a Black lawmaker in Congress.
