Thomas Madigan, a well-known figure in Wyckoff's local politics and community, has passed away at the age of 71.
A Career in Public Service
Madigan's journey in public service began with education. He dedicated 12 years to the Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education before transitioning to the Township Committee in 2010.
Political Adaptability and Leadership
Madigan's political career was marked by adaptability. He started as an independent but later won re-elections as a Republican. His last victory came in 2024 after a rare primary contest.
As part of the rotating leadership system, he served as mayor twice, in 2019 and 2023.
Community Involvement
Beyond politics, Madigan was a community staple. He coached youth sports and served on the Recreation Advisory Board. He was also a member of the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary Club and St. Elizabeth’s Church. His dedication to Wyckoff was evident.
Family and Legacy
Madigan leaves behind a large family. He was a father of seven and a grandfather of nine. His wife Mary, five children, and nine grandchildren survive him. He was predeceased by his daughters Bitsy and Alicia.

Local officials praised Madigan's service. Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips, State Sen. Kristen Corrado, and Assemblyman Al Barlas highlighted his kindness and commitment. Mayor Rudolf Boonstra also acknowledged Madigan's leadership and devotion to Wyckoff.
Honoring His Memory
The township has lowered flags to half-staff to honor Madigan's memory until the day of his interment. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Vander Platt Funeral Home, but details are still pending.
