A Local Plumbing Company Shuts Down After Decades in Business
Clive, Iowa, USASat May 23 2026
Just a few miles from Des Moines, a family-run plumbing business that operated for over three decades has closed its doors for good. The company, which once employed 47 people, shut down on May 1, according to official notices filed with the state. Its last known location was in Clive, a suburb that grew along with the business itself.
The company had humble beginnings in 1983 when its founder launched it under a different name. Records show it later rebranded multiple times while staying in the same general area. Before striking out on his own, the founder first learned the trade from his father and uncle, who ran a plumbing business in Adel. Even after starting his own company, he stayed connected to the family roots of the industry. He passed away in 2017, leaving behind a legacy beyond just pipes and water heaters—he was known for regularly supporting local charities and community projects.
Workers received no official explanation in the filings about why the business closed. The state requires companies to report large layoffs, but the notices don’t always reveal the full story. Without details, employees and neighbors are left to wonder what led to such a sudden shutdown. Did rising costs push the company under? Did a lack of younger family members step in to keep it going? The answers aren’t on paper.
