San Mateo County Health has teamed up with Santa Clara County Public Health to warn people about a new measles case. The infected person is an adult who traveled abroad and lives in Santa Clara County. He has received the MMR vaccine but is now staying at home to prevent spread.
The patient ate at Panda Express on 1453 Burlingame Avenue in Burlingame on February 23 and 24, 2026. Anyone who was inside the restaurant between 11:30 a. m. and 1:30 p. m. those days could be exposed. The risk is higher for people who are not vaccinated, pregnant or have weak immune systems.
If you were in the restaurant during those times and notice a fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes or a rash that spreads across the body, do not go to the doctor right away. First call your healthcare provider so they can prepare for a possible measles case.
People who stay symptom‑free more than 21 days after exposure are considered safe. Fully vaccinated people have a very low chance of getting measles, but everyone should keep an eye on their health.
In 2026, San Mateo County has confirmed two measles cases. There was one case reported last year in 2025. The county follows state vaccination rules, and most people in California can get the MMR vaccine through insurance.
Vaccines like MMR protect people from serious diseases and help them live longer, healthier lives. Staying up to date on shots is the best defense against preventable illnesses.
