In late 2023, a young man named Morgan Duncan disappeared from Columbia's Springtree Apartments. Morgan, who was 27, had been battling schizophrenia since his college days. His remains were found scattered in the woods and near a storm drain, stirring a community to action. Morgan's mother, LaTanza Duncan, is determined to make sure her son's death isn't in vain. She's pushing for better support for those with mental health issues, hoping to shield others from similar fates.
Morgan’s mother knows all too well the daily struggles her son faced. He was an artist, drawing himself forcing a smile, a poignant reflection of his daily reality. She believes his mental health struggles ultimately cost him his life. Three people have been charged in connection with Duncan’s death, highlighting the vulnerabilities of those with mental illnesses. LaTanza Duncan wants to see improved housing and more community activities to protect those at risk.
