A New Brain Center Opens Its Doors
Cleveland, Ohio, USATue Mar 03 2026
Cleveland Clinic is building a huge new brain hospital that will open in 2027.
The facility will bring together doctors who treat everything from strokes to dementia under one roof, making it easier for patients to get the best care.
The 1‑million‑square‑foot building will have 15 floors, but only 12 will be used at first. It will hold 40 treatment rooms, 120 exam rooms with smart tech, 14 operating rooms and six MRI machines.
Patients will first walk into a hallway where cameras record how they move, their voice and thinking patterns. All that data will be ready for the doctor before the appointment starts.
The hospital also has a special “hybrid” operating room that lets surgeons do scans and surgery in the same space. This can help doctors put tiny brain‑computer devices into patients who are paralyzed, giving them a way to talk with computers.
A big part of the new building is a rehab area that uses wearable exoskeletons to help people walk after a stroke or spinal injury. The design also includes lots of windows so patients can see daylight, which helps people with brain disorders feel more oriented.
The clinic plans to start with 200 private patient rooms, but can grow to 300 in the future. Nurses wanted to stay close to patients, so the architects built small nursing stations between pairs of rooms that look straight into each patient’s room. Two skyways will let patients move from the old campus to the new building without going outside.
Cleveland Clinic already sees about 450, 000 neurological patients a year and expects that number to rise. The new center is meant to meet this growing need while pushing forward research into brain diseases.
