A New Chapter for North Idaho College Graduates

North Idaho College saw a historic moment with its largest graduating class ever. 971 students crossed the stage, marking the biggest class in the school's 91-year history. The weather was gloomy, but the mood was far from it. The Schuler Performing Arts Center was packed with students and their families for two ceremonies. The morning session was for associate program graduates, while the afternoon was for dual credit, health professions, and technical program graduates.
The president of North Idaho College, Nick Swayne, took the stage to acknowledge the graduates' dedication. He thanked them for their commitment to education and to the college community. The keynote speaker, Coeur d'Alene Tribal Chairman Chief Allan, shared powerful words. He reminded the graduates that their education is something that can never be taken away. Chief Allan's mother, a single parent who didn't finish high school, taught him the importance of believing in oneself. He encouraged the graduates to honor their ancestors by striving for excellence. One graduate, Cydney Minas, earned her degree in early childhood education and development. She was driven by her 4-year-old son, whose handprints adorned her mortarboard. Minas worked at the Children’s Center while studying, balancing school, work, and motherhood. She credits her family and husband for their support during this challenging journey. Minas' story is a testament to the power of determination and the importance of a support system.
