A New Haven for Alzheimer's Families on Long Island

Long Island, Amityville, USAMon Jul 28 2025

Long Island now has a unique place for people with Alzheimer's and their families. The Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center in Amityville is the first of its kind. It helps families learn to care for their loved ones with dementia. The center also has fun activities for patients, like karaoke and games.

A Spacious and Specialized Facility

The center is big, with 11,500 square feet of space. It has special rooms to help people with dementia feel calm. One room even teaches families how to travel with their loved ones. It has real train and airplane seats to practice with.

A Family's Mission

Michael Rabinowitz helped make this center happen. His mom, Barbara, had Alzheimer's. He knows how hard it is for families. The center is named after his mom. She passed away in 2022 after a six-year battle with the disease.

A Legacy of Giving

The Rabinowitz family has always helped others. They started a foundation in 2003. They support many causes, like special needs children and multiple sclerosis. Now, they are helping people with Alzheimer's.

A Leader's Vision

The center's leader, Chuck Fuschilio, found the perfect spot for it. It's near Dominican Village, home to the world's oldest nun. He believes the center will help many families. It's a place where people can learn and feel supported.

More Than Just Science

The center is more than just science. It's about understanding the needs of people with dementia. It has sensory rooms to help them relax. Michael Rabinowitz is proud of the work done to make this center special. He knows his parents would be proud too.
