Israel's Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, recently made a bold statement. He said that if Israel wins in Gaza, the area will be completely destroyed. He also mentioned that people will start leaving for other countries. This news has caused a lot of worry, but for those living in Gaza, the biggest worry right now is the lack of food.
Israel has a new plan. They want to take control of Gaza and move people to the south for safety. But many people in Gaza don't think this will change anything. They've been living in tough conditions for a long time. Awni Awad, who lives in a tent after being forced to leave his home, calls the situation "catastrophic and tragic. " He asks the world to see the growing hunger in Gaza.
The United Nations World Food Program said they ran out of food in Gaza in April. This is because Israel has been blocking all supplies since March. Aya al-Skafy from Gaza City shared a heartbreaking story. Her baby died because of malnutrition and lack of medicine. Another resident, Umm Hashem al-Saqqa, fears for her son's life. He suffers from anemia and can't walk due to malnutrition.
Israel says there is no hunger crisis in Gaza. But people like Mohammed al-Shawa disagree. He says Israel controls most of Gaza and the new military plan won't change much. The United Nations says 69% of Gaza is either in Israel's control or has evacuation orders. In the southern part of Rafah, the situation is even worse. Over 230, 000 people lived there before the war, but now it's a no-go zone.
Israel blames Hamas for the suffering in Gaza. They say Hamas steals humanitarian aid. But people in Gaza say they have no food or medicine. They also say Israel is killing them through bombing, shooting, or starvation. The situation is complex, but one thing is clear: people in Gaza are suffering.
