Alivia Cavotta, a standout softball player from Chittenango, has made a big decision. She has decided to play softball at Le Moyne College. This is a big deal because she is the third child in her family to play college sports. Her brother, Aiden, is already making waves as a senior defensive back at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He even started as quarterback for the Bears in 2021. Her sister, Anna, is a freshman softball player at RIT and has been a two-time first-team All-CNY selection. Alivia credits her family for her success. She says her mom and brother taught her about support and competition. Her sister pushed her to be better, and her dad helped her put it all together. Softball has always been a big part of Alivia's life. She started dreaming about playing in college when she was in eighth grade. That's when she hit . 377 and helped her team win Chittenango's first-ever softball sectional title alongside her sister Anna. Le Moyne College showed interest in Alivia and invited her to camps, but she couldn't make it. When she finally got a chance to visit the school in September, she was excited. She wanted to play Division I but stay in-state. Le Moyne's education program also caught her attention. After a month of thinking, Alivia decided to commit to Le Moyne. She doesn't know of any other current Section III players joining her there, but the Dolphins already have two Section III alums whom Anna played against. These include junior Sydney Nesci and freshman Camryn Shenk, as well as new assistant coach Alyssa Dybacz. Alivia is looking forward to the upcoming spring season. She is excited to focus on her sport without the stress of the recruitment process. The Bears are hoping to build on their back-to-back trips to the Class B semifinals.
