A New Spot for Cider Lovers in Providence Forge
In the heart of Providence Forge, a unique spot has opened its doors, blending history with modern charm.
A Community Hub with a Rich Past
The Old School Cider House is not just a place to enjoy a drink; it's a community hub nestled in a building that once served as a schoolhouse in the 1920s and 1930s. Jackie and Mark Smith saw potential in this old structure and decided to transform it into a space where people can gather, enjoy craft beverages, and make memories.
Craft Beverages with a Local Twist
The cidery specializes in Virginia craft beverages, with a focus on ciders, but also offers beer, wine, and a variety of food options. What sets this place apart is its connection to the local history. Later this fall, they will introduce four original ciders inspired by New Kent’s past, adding a unique touch to their offerings.
Nostalgic Interior and Outdoor Seating
The interior is designed to evoke nostalgia, with seating areas named after different parts of a school, like the homeroom, library, and cafeteria. These spaces can be reserved for events, making it a versatile venue for everything from birthday parties to book clubs. Outdoor seating is also available, complete with games like cornhole and bocce ball, providing a relaxed atmosphere for visitors.
Revitalizing Providence Forge
The Smiths' vision extends beyond just a business; they aim to revitalize the small town of Providence Forge. They are even planning to build a separate event space that can accommodate up to 200 people. Their goal is to create a gathering place that the community can enjoy and cherish.
