The U400 is not the first lock to offer hands-free unlocking, but it is different. Most other locks use a mix of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and geofencing. These systems often require an app to be running on your phone. They can be unreliable, leaving you waiting at the door. Apple's system is more direct. It uses Bluetooth and UWB to connect the lock to your phone. No app is needed. In tests, it worked every time, except when the phone was under a pizza box. Even then, it unlocked just a second later.The U400 is part of a new standard called Aliro. This standard is being developed by Apple, Samsung, Google, and major lock manufacturers. It aims to bring UWB and NFC unlocking to other smart home platforms and devices. The U400 is ready for this standard and will work with Android phones for hands-free unlocking. The lock has a touchscreen keypad, a fingerprint reader, and a traditional keyhole. It is powered by a rechargeable battery that lasts up to six months. The lock is also weatherproof and has a gyroscope to detect if the door is open or closed. Setting up the U400 is straightforward. It connects to the Apple Home app via a Matter code. Once connected, you can set up Home Key and turn on Express Mode for hands-free unlocking. The lock also works with the Aqara app, where you can add codes and fingerprints. The U400 is larger than other smart locks, but it offers a reliable and fast way to unlock your door. It is a glimpse into the future of smart locks.
