Rucci's journey began in Philadelphia, where he attended Waldron Elementary and Temple University. After moving to New York, he quickly made a name for himself. In 2002, he became only the second American designer invited to show his collection at Paris' haute couture shows.

However, Rucci's path was not without challenges. In 2014, a bad business decision cost him his brand and his name. Undeterred, he launched a new brand, RR331, from his home in New York City in 2019.
