A Pitcher's Masterclass: Cardinals Dominate Guardians
Cleveland, Ohio, USASat Jun 28 2025
Sonny Gray put on a show for the St. Louis Cardinals, shutting out the Cleveland Guardians with a flawless performance. He didn't allow many hits and struck out a bunch of batters, his best game in years. This win was extra sweet because the Cardinals had been shut out in their last two games.
Two players, Alec Burleson and Pedro Pagés, hit home runs in the same inning. This broke a long streak where the Cardinals hadn't scored any runs. The Guardians, on the other hand, were shut out for the second game in a row. Their star player, José Ramírez, wasn't even in the lineup because of an injury.
Gray's performance was impressive. He didn't give up many runs in his last two starts after a rough game earlier in the month. The Guardians had a chance to keep the no-hitter going, but a hit in the fifth inning ruined that.
The Cardinals' next game will feature Miles Mikolas on the mound, while the Guardians will have Slade Cecconi pitching.
