A Quick Look at New Jersey's Upcoming Weather Shift
New Jersey, USAFri May 15 2026
Temperatures in New Jersey are playing catch-up this week after a chilly stretch. On Thursday, many areas struggled to get past the upper 50s to low 60s under heavy cloud cover, which is quite unusual for mid-May. That’s about 10 to 15 degrees below what’s typical for this time of year.
The weather starts shifting Friday as the clouds thin out and high pressure moves in. Highs will climb back to the upper 60s to low 70s—closer to what you’d expect in a normal mid-spring day. But the real change begins Saturday when warmer air arrives from the south, bringing summer-like warmth. Inland areas could hit the upper 70s to low 80s by then.
Sunday pushes the heat even further, with inland regions likely reaching the mid-80s. Coastal spots will stay cooler, lagging by about 5 to 10 degrees. A small chance of rain or thunderstorms exists Sunday afternoon, especially in the southern part of the state. That’s not a huge surprise, since warmer air often brings brief disturbances.
The warm trend continues Monday, with most areas hitting the mid-80s and some inland spots in South Jersey creeping toward 90. Tuesday and Wednesday could see those inland areas reach the mid-90s, though it’s still unclear if humidity will make it feel even stickier. Either way, this kind of heat in May is a reminder of how quickly seasons can shift in the Northeast.
