The dog's condition made his abandonment especially risky. Without sight or hearing, he couldn't navigate the dangers of the streets or the stress of a shelter. Sava believes he was left there just a few days before being found. There's no microchip, and while they plan to check the car wash's camera footage, the exact moment of abandonment remains unclear.The teenagers' quick thinking likely saved the dog's life. If they hadn't acted fast, the outcome could have been tragic. Now, the dog is receiving medical care at a partner clinic. Once stable, he'll move to the shelter, but Sava hopes to find a foster home soon. The shelter environment could be too overwhelming for him given his age and health. Sava's Safe Haven, a no-kill rescue near Galați, currently cares for over 180 animals. The organization depends on community support and volunteers to keep going. In 2024, Romania saw over 100, 000 dogs enter shelters, with more than 65, 000 being adopted—a significant increase from previous years. Despite the heartbreaking reality of pet abandonment, Sava is committed to giving this senior dog a comfortable life. The goal is to ensure he spends his remaining days in warmth and love, not in a kennel.
