A Teacher's Past Comes to Light
Hampton Cove, USAWed Nov 26 2025
A special education teacher in North Alabama has stepped down from her job. Brandy Taylor worked at Hampton Cove Middle School since 2020. She decided to resign after news about her 2017 arrest spread online.
Taylor was accused of hurting a child. She allegedly hit, punched, and bit the child. She also hit the child with a belt. This happened when she was teaching in Albertville. It did not happen at school.
She spent a month in jail for third-degree domestic violence assault. Despite this, she passed a background check in 2020. This allowed her to teach at Hampton Cove Middle School.
Taylor has been on leave since the news broke. The school system looked into the matter. But they have not shared the results of their investigation.
This raises questions about background checks. How thorough are they? Should past incidents like this disqualify someone from teaching?
