A Teacher's Tragic Encounter with a Bat
Sat Nov 30 2024
This: a teacher finds a bat in her classroom, tries to help it, and ends up with a rabies infection. Sadly, Leah Seneng, a 60-year-old art teacher from California, passed away from rabies after being bitten by a bat she found in her classroom. The bite happened in mid-October, but she didn't show any symptoms until a month later. By the time she was admitted to the hospital, it was too late. Rabies, a viral disease spread through saliva, can cause severe brain damage and is often fatal once symptoms appear.
Rabies is rare in humans; the last case in Fresno County was back in 1992. But it's still important to take precautions. If you're bitten by an animal, seek medical help right away. A vaccine can be given to prevent the disease, but it needs to be done before symptoms start.
Leah's friend, Laura Splotch, shared that Leah loved nature and exploring the world. It's heartbreaking that her life was cut short by such a rare and tragic event. Let's remember to respect wildlife and stay safe.
