MTV, once the go-to channel for music videos, has long since shifted its focus to reality TV. In 2025, it finally shut down its last 24/7 music channels in countries like the UK and Australia. But for those who miss the days of non-stop music videos, there's a new web app that brings back the nostalgia.
Created by a developer known as Flexasaurus Rex, MTV Rewind offers 11 channels of continuous music video streaming. Each channel has a different theme, from the original MTV launch in 1981 to specific genres like rap and iconic shows like 120 Minutes and Headbangers Ball. With over 33, 000 music videos, there's enough content to keep you entertained for more than two months.
Flexasaurus Rex developed MTV Rewind out of a sense of nostalgia and sadness over MTV's shift away from music. The app features random video playlists, a shuffle option, and even era-appropriate ads. It's like stepping back in time to the '90s, complete with a hit counter reminiscent of old Geocities websites.
The app sources its videos from YouTube, highlighting how streaming services have changed the landscape of music video consumption. While MTV's original 24/7 music channels may be gone, MTV Rewind offers a taste of what made them so special.
