WEATHER
A Warm-Up Before Summer
Columbia, South Carolina, USATue May 13 2025
The weather is finally taking a turn for the better. After days of rain, the forecast is looking brighter. The region has been stuck in a pattern of unsettled weather, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected through Wednesday. While some storms might be stronger, there's no widespread severe weather on the horizon. The good news is that by the end of the week, things are looking up. Drier and warmer conditions are on the way.
Today, folks can expect a break from the rain. The day will be drier, sunnier, and warmer, although there might be a few isolated afternoon showers. Satellite images show a dry patch spreading over the area, which should help clear out the clouds and limit rainfall. However, there might still be some low clouds and fog in the morning. As the day goes on, the sun will help warm things up, with temperatures reaching the lower 80s. Tonight, any remaining showers should fade away, and temperatures will drop to the low 60s. There might be some fog or low clouds overnight.
Wednesday could still see some isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. This is due to a final weather system moving through. The Pee Dee area might see the most rainfall, with a slight chance of stronger storms. However, severe weather is not expected to be widespread. Temperatures will continue to rise, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. By Thursday, things will start to change. A high-pressure system will move in, pushing out the remaining moisture and bringing in much warmer and drier conditions. Temperatures will reach the upper 80s, with humidity levels rising. There might be a stray afternoon storm, but most areas should stay dry. Overnight lows will also be milder, in the mid to upper 60s.
Looking ahead to the weekend, warm and muggy conditions will stick around. High pressure will keep things mostly dry into Friday. However, changes are on the way as a deep weather system moves into the Great Lakes and a slow-moving cold front approaches. There might be a few more clouds over the weekend, but the chance of rain is small. This warm-up is a preview of the summer heat and humidity to come. It's a good reminder to stay hydrated and keep an eye on the forecast. While the weather is improving, it's always important to be prepared for changes.
