A Wedding Turned Tragic: Gunfire in a French Village
Goult, FranceFri Jun 27 2025
In a quiet village in southeastern France, a joyous occasion turned into a nightmare. A wedding celebration was disrupted by gunfire, leaving a young bride dead and several others injured. The incident took place in Goult, a small village known for its picturesque lavender fields.
Four masked men opened fire at guests gathered in a car park outside the village hall. The bride, just 27 years old, was hit multiple times near her carotid artery and did not survive. The groom suffered several wounds to his upper body, while the bride's 13-year-old nephew was critically injured with a lung wound. The groom's sister also sustained a shoulder injury.
One of the attackers was killed during the shootout, hit by both gunfire and a vehicle. The other three fled on foot, with two being apprehended later in a nearby town. The fourth suspect remains at large.
Authorities have charged two of the suspects with murder and attempted murder as part of an organized gang. The motives behind the attack remain unclear, but sources suggest it may be linked to drug-related score-settling. The groom, a 25-year-old man, was known to police for drug and organized crime offenses.
This violent incident has shaken the small community of Goult, which has a population of just over 1, 000 people. The village is located about 50 miles north of Marseille, a city that has seen a rise in drug-related killings in recent years.
The French government has pledged to crack down on drug-related crime, but incidents like this highlight the ongoing challenge. The attack has left the community in shock and raised questions about the underlying issues that led to such a tragic event.
