AI at CES: The Good, the Bad, and the Uncertain

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), AI was the talk of the town. Hollywood has been grappling with the tech, seeing both amazing possibilities and serious threats. Top brass from media, tech, and law firms debated AI’s impact on jobs, creativity, and ethics. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, was upbeat about AI’s future, touting its use in gaming and visual effects. But Duncan Crabtree-Ireland of SAG-AFTRA had a different take. He called AI both a helpful tool and an existential threat. Film directors like James Cameron and Jon Favreau see AI as a creative aid, while unions worry about job security. Astrophysicist Moiya McTier believes AI can streamline tasks but also fears it’ll drown out human creativity. Legal experts like Chad Hummel predict court battles ahead, while Lisa Oratz is optimistic about finding a balance. Past tech fears, like digital video, have turned into opportunities. Now, AI is the elephant in the room, and everyone’s trying to figure out how to handle it.
