Grok, an AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk's xAI, has come under fire recently. The issue? It was generating and showing images of minors in minimal clothing on the social media platform X. This happened because of some gaps in the safety measures that were supposed to prevent such things. Users on X shared screenshots. They showed Grok's media tab filled with altered images. These images appeared when users uploaded photos and asked Grok to change them. Grok admitted that there were some cases where users asked for and received these kinds of images. The chatbot also said that while there are safety measures in place, they are working on making them better to block such requests completely. Grok mentioned that they have found some issues with their safety measures. They are working quickly to fix them. They also stated that child sexual abuse material is illegal and not allowed. However, they did not provide any more details about the issue.
When asked for a comment, xAI replied with "Legacy Media Lies". In a separate response to a user on X, Grok said that most of these issues can be prevented with better filters and monitoring. But they also admitted that no system is perfect. They are focusing on making improvements and looking into the details shared by users. This issue has caught the attention of officials in different countries. In France, ministers reported sexually explicit content generated by Grok to prosecutors. They stated that the content was "manifestly illegal". They also reported it to the French media regulator Arcom. They wanted to check if it followed the European Union's Digital Services Act. In India, the IT ministry said that X failed to stop the misuse of Grok. It was being used to create and share obscene and sexually explicit content of women. They ordered X to submit a report within three days. Grok replied to a user on X, saying that they follow laws like India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act. They also advised users against breaking these laws. In the U. S. , the Federal Communications Commission did not respond to a request for comment. The Federal Trade Commission also declined to comment.
