'AI in Finance: Hype vs. Reality'

Lots of financial firms are talking about how great AI is, but many aren't seeing real results yet. Edward J Achtner, the head of generative AI at HSBC, thinks a lot of what's happening is just "success theater. " He said at the CogX summit in London that companies need to be smart about where they use AI. For example, HSBC has teamed up with Google to fight money laundering. But even with their success, Achtner says they're careful with generative AI, which has different risks.Other companies like Klarna are using AI to cut staff, but this might not be as effective as they claim. Nathalie Oestmann warns companies need to be ready for these changes. Lloyds Bank's Ranil Boteju agrees, saying they're being cautious with AI tools that interact with customers. Many AI leaders in finance agree that AI won't be as disruptive as some companies say, but it's still a powerful tool.
