AI Tech Cuts Radiation Risk in Medical Imaging

Medical imaging is a big deal. It helps doctors see inside the body. But it comes with a problem: radiation. Too much radiation can hurt both patients and doctors. A new AI system, called GenDSA-V2, is trying to fix this. This AI was trained on a huge amount of data. Over 5 million images from 46, 829 patients were used. The goal? To make medical imaging safer. The AI was tested on 1, 068 patients. These patients had different conditions. Some had brain aneurysms. Others had lung or liver cancer. The results were impressive. The AI group had much less radiation exposure. The air kerma (AK) was 151. 3 mGy. That's compared to 457. 4 mGy in the standard group. The dose-area product (DAP) was also lower. It was 4009. 7 μGy m² in the AI group. The standard group had 12531. 6 μGy m².
But what about the procedure time? The AI group took a bit longer. It was 34. 8 minutes. The standard group took 33. 1 minutes. The difference was small. And the complication rates were similar. The AI group had 7. 5% complications. The standard group had 8. 1%. This AI system is a big step forward. It cuts radiation exposure by about two-thirds. That's a huge deal. It makes medical imaging safer for everyone. But it's not just about safety. It's also about efficiency. The AI system shows promise. It could change how medical imaging is done.
