AI: Transforming How We Think About Risk
Tue Nov 12 2024
In his book, "Risk: The Science and Politics of Fear, " Dan Gardner blamed our risk misjudgments on the 24-hour news cycle. It's messing with our heads, making us think things are riskier than they are. Now, AI is stepping in, set to change everything about how we see risk.
AI is like a super intelligence that can predict stuff really well. It might make us think everything is certain, which could be dangerous. We might stop taking risks altogether, or rely too much on AI and forget how to think for ourselves.
AI could also create bubbles, where we only hear what we want to hear. That's not good, because we need different views to make smart decisions. Plus, if we use AI too much, our brains could get lazy and stop working as well.
So, what can we do? Treat AI like a helpful tool, not a magic crystal ball. Don't let it scare us from taking necessary risks. We should also mix up our data sources and keep practicing our own judgment skills.
The future is coming fast, and AI is a big part of it. We need to be ready to think, feel, and act in new ways. Let's embrace this Age of Prediction and make the most of it.
