AI Wealth Debate: Who Gets the Share?

USAFri Jun 05 2026
Sen. Elizabeth Warren said on X that artificial intelligence could create trillions of dollars soon. She presented two options: let a few billionaires keep getting richer, or tax AI and put the money into schools, health care, and jobs. Warren has warned that fast automation could push many workers out of work. She urges lawmakers to act before large layoffs happen. Sen. Bernie Sanders also joined the conversation by proposing a bill that would give the public a 50‑percent stake in major AI firms such as xAI, OpenAI and Anthropic. The plan would create a federal fund that buys shares from these companies in exchange for a one‑time equity transfer.
Elon Musk added another angle by saying SpaceX will pay an extra yearly fee to Grimes County, which could raise local taxes by 25 percent. He also noted that the company’s employees and contractors would contribute more tax revenue. Musk’s comments came while Terafab asked the county to waive property taxes so it could stay competitive. These voices show a growing debate about how AI’s profits should be shared and whether government intervention is needed to protect workers and public services.
