Aid Workers Hurt in Gaza Clash
Gaza, Khan Younis, PalestineSat Jul 05 2025
In Gaza, a tense situation unfolded when two American aid workers were hurt during a distribution event. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which started working in May, has faced criticism for making people walk through dangerous areas to get supplies. The injured workers are now getting medical care, and thankfully, no one else was harmed.
The trouble began when two armed individuals threw grenades at an aid center in Khan Younis. The GHF pointed fingers at Hamas for this attack. Since the GHF began its work, over 400 Palestinians have lost their lives while trying to collect food, according to the UN and local doctors. Israel argues that the new aid system prevents Hamas from getting supplies.
Interestingly, this incident happened just as Hamas showed interest in discussing a ceasefire with Israel. The GHF mentioned that despite the attack, thousands of Gazans had safely received food earlier. They also warned about threats from Hamas, including plans to target American staff, Palestinian aid workers, and civilians.
Meanwhile, Gaza's civil defense agency reported that 32 Palestinians were killed by Israeli military actions on Saturday. On Friday, Hamas expressed willingness to talk more about a US-proposed ceasefire plan. This plan reportedly involves releasing Israeli hostages in stages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Hamas wants changes to the draft, including a US promise that fighting won't restart after the ceasefire. They also want the GHF shut down and aid distributed by the UN instead. Israel has turned down these requests before. Currently, 50 hostages are still in Gaza, with at least 20 believed to be alive.
According to Gaza's health ministry, Israeli forces killed at least 70 people in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 57, 338 since the war began. The Israeli military started this campaign in response to Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1, 200 people and took 251 hostages.
