American Airlines is trying out an innovative boarding system at three airports to keep line cutters in check. The tech, under testing at Albuquerque International Sunport Airport, Tucson International Airport, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, makes a noise when someone tries to board before their group is called.
The airline hopes this will make the boarding process smoother and fairer. If someone tries to jump the line, a gate agent will kindly ask them to wait. Gate agents can also override the alert in special cases, like when someone is traveling with a companion with higher status. So far, the airline is happy with the results. This new system is a bit like having a teacher in the boarding area, making sure everyone takes turns and follows the rules. It's a small change, but it could make a big difference in how smoothly boarding goes.
