You might think that AI is all about brains, but it's got a big belly too! AI needs tons of energy to run its data centers. For example, in Ohio, there are plans for 90 new data centers that would need as much power as 45 years of Tesla car sales. That's a lot of juice!
Why does AI need so much power? Each data center uses as much electricity as 750, 000 electric vehicles in a year. That's more than just a snack for AI.
Recently, big companies like Google and Microsoft have started looking into nuclear power to solve this problem. They think that putting data centers near nuclear power plants could be a good idea. This way, they can get power easily without having to build new infrastructure.
Some scientists have already been working on small nuclear reactors that could power data centers. These reactors could be like big batteries that never run out. But there's still a lot of work to do to make them safe and easy to use.
You might be thinking, "Why not just use renewable energy like wind or solar? " Well, that's not such a great idea for data centers. For the Ohio situation, you'd need 30, 000 wind turbines and 40, 000 acres of land. That's a lot of space and money!
So, what's the solution? People from different companies and the government should work together to make small nuclear plants a reality. This way, AI can keep growing without running out of power.
