Alaa Abd El-Fattah: From Egyptian Prison to UK Reunion

Alaa Abd El-Fattah, a well-known activist, has finally made it to the UK after a long time in an Egyptian prison. He was let out in September thanks to a presidential pardon. This man, who has British citizenship, has been a big name in the fight for freedom in Egypt. He has spent a lot of his adult life in and out of jail because of his activism. His family and the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, announced his arrival on Friday. Alaa's mother, Laila Soueif, shared the good news on Facebook, saying, "Praise be to Allah, Alaa reached London safely. " His family also put out a longer statement. They said he flew to Britain from Cairo after the travel ban was lifted on December 20. Soon, he will be with his 14-year-old son, Khaled, who lives in Brighton.Keir Starmer was happy to hear about Alaa's return. He said, "I'm delighted that Alaa Abd el-Fattah is back in the UK and has been reunited with his loved ones, who must be feeling profound relief. " He also thanked Alaa's family and everyone who worked for his release. Alaa's imprisonment and hunger strikes got a lot of attention worldwide. People called for his release, especially during the COP27 climate summit in 2022. Even though there were campaigns, it was President Sisi who pardoned him in September this year. Before that, Alaa's name was taken off Egypt's "terrorism" list.
