Alabama's Hot Shots Sink Kentucky in SEC Opener

He scored a career-high 26 points, while Labaron Philon Jr. added 17 points. Together, they helped Alabama beat Kentucky 89-74. Kentucky put up a good fight, cutting Alabama's lead to just nine points in the second half. But Alabama's strong defense and accurate shooting kept them ahead. Holloway and Philon scored most of the points in the final minutes, sealing the win. Alabama's team is known for their three-point shooting, ranking third in the country for three-pointers per game. They entered the game with high expectations and delivered. Houston Mallette and Amari Allen also contributed, scoring 14 and 11 points respectively. Allen also grabbed nine rebounds.The game wasn't easy for Kentucky. They had a slow start, scoring only 34 points in the first half. Their shooting was off, making just 38% of their field goals and 22% of their three-pointers. Otega Oweh and Jaland Lowe were their top scorers, with 22 and 21 points respectively. Alabama's starting center, Aiden Sherrell, left the game early due to a leg injury. Noah Williamson stepped in and scored 10 points with four rebounds in 18 minutes of play. This win was Alabama's fourth straight over Kentucky. Since coach Nate Oats took over in 2019, Alabama has won 76 conference games, the most in the SEC during that time. Both teams will play again on Wednesday. Kentucky will host Missouri, while Alabama will visit No. 11 Vanderbilt.
