Alaska's senators have always been known for their openness. They've made it a point to hear out their constituents. But lately, Sen. Dan Sullivan seems to have forgotten this important part of his job. Recently, Sullivan spoke at an Anchorage Chamber of Commerce event. He talked about a budget bill he supported. The Chamber asked people to send in questions. They could do this online or on cards during the lunch. But Sullivan only answered one question. This left many people feeling ignored. Alaskans are used to political disagreements. But they're not used to seeing their senators stay silent while the president breaks laws. They're not used to seeing their senators ignore the Constitution. When will Sullivan stand up for democracy? The budget bill Sullivan supported does some concerning things. It keeps taxes low for big companies. It lets rich families pass on millions without paying taxes. But it cuts help for poor and elderly people. Does Sullivan think this is fair? There were many other questions Sullivan didn't answer. Like why he waited so long to support a bill about the Epstein files. Or how to make sure public radio gets permanent funding. Or why he hasn't spoken out against dangerous words from the president. Alaskans deserve better. They deserve a senator who listens and answers. If Sullivan can't do this, maybe it's time for someone else to represent them.
