Layoffs are happening again at Byron Allen's Allen Media Group. The company, known for owning various TV stations and The Weather Channel, has cut jobs from its weather, news, and sports teams, as well as other divisions. This latest round of cuts affects The Weather Channel, its streaming service HBCU Go, Entertainment Studios, and ad sales. A spokesperson for the company says this is a continuation of earlier layoffs announced in May. However, insiders report that this is a new round and has just been announced, which is impacting morale within the company. The exact number of people affected is unknown.
The entertainment industry has been seeing layoffs for months now. Paramount and Netflix are among the big names that have cut jobs recently. Allen Media Group owns 36 TV stations in major U. S. markets and other assets like TheGrio and a movie division. Earlier this year, Allen himself made headlines by expressing interest in buying Paramount Global for a whopping $30 billion, after previously trying to acquire BET.
