America, Your Jewish Neighbors Need You
New York, USAMon Oct 07 2024
America, it's time we talk about something important. For the past year, many of your Jewish neighbors have felt alone and hurt by some of the responses to tragic events that happened on October 7. These attacks didn’t just target Jews but also Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, and Druze. Yet, instead of standing together in unity against such violence, some have justified it as resistance against colonial oppressors.
This is not the time to point fingers at Israel or accuse it of genocide without acknowledging the real suffering of those still held captive in Gaza and the families of over 1,200 people who lost their lives that day. The blame for this lies with Hamas. If their leaders surrender and release the hostages, the fighting can end instantly.
Jewish students on college campuses have been facing violence simply for expressing their identity. Faculty are conducting classes surrounded by hateful signs and chants. This is not acceptable. As we enter our New Year, a time for reflection and improvement, it’s crucial that you stand with your Jewish friends, neighbors, and fellow human beings who have supported you through many challenges.
We need your support, empathy, and friendship now more than ever. It's not too late to show solidarity and unity in the face of such hatred and violence. Let’s enter this New Year together, stronger and more united against hate.
